Specials

Specials

Learning extends beyond the core academic curriculum. Through our weekly specials, students explore their creativity, develop new interests, strengthen problem-solving skills, and engage in meaningful hands-on learning. These experiences help students build confidence, collaborate with others, and discover new passions.

All students participate in a variety of specialty classes throughout the school year, including:

  • Art – Once each week
  • Music – Once each week
  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) – Once each week
  • Physical Education (PE) – Twice each week

These classes complement classroom learning while providing opportunities for creativity, collaboration, innovation, and physical wellness.

Music

Hope School's music program develops students' musical knowledge, creativity, and performance skills through singing, movement, rhythm, instrumental experiences, and music appreciation.

Students share their learning with families and the community through two performances each school year, celebrating their growth and accomplishments.

Art

Our visual arts program encourages creativity, self-expression, and artistic exploration while introducing students to a variety of artistic techniques, materials, and styles.

Each spring, student artwork is proudly showcased during our Open House Art Show, celebrating the creativity and talents of every student.

STEAM

Hope School is proud to participate in the Elementary STEAM Consortium, providing students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. Through inquiry, collaboration, creativity, and design thinking, students develop critical thinking, communication, and real-world problem-solving skills.

This curriculum was developed by the Elementary STEAM Consortium, established and facilitated by the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy (DPEA). The consortium's mission is to support the professional development and collaboration of local elementary STEAM teachers to benefit the youth in our community. Goleta Union School District served as the pilot partner, joined by Hope Elementary School District and Santa Barbara Unified School District. These collective efforts are made possible through generous philanthropic support stewarded by the Formative Foundation, formerly known as the DPEA Foundation.

Physical Education

Students participate in physical education twice each week, where they develop movement skills, physical fitness, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits. Through a variety of individual and team activities, students build confidence, perseverance, and an appreciation for lifelong physical activity.
